Pallet Racking Repairment – The Complete FAQ Guide
The maintenance of racking is very important. Pallet racking is generally used to store large quantities of items. Long-term load-bearing may hurt the racking.
From a safety point of view, regular maintenance can prevent accidents from occurring. Neglecting the safety of pallet racking over a long period can easily put workers as well as products at risk.
From a reputation point of view, the high incidence of accidents in the warehouse can also affect a brand’s reputation and reduce customer trust.
Inspection plan for maintenance of industrial racking systems
Regular racking checks are important. This requires professionals to set up a cyclical inspection schedule.
Daily inspection:
The first stage is the daily inspection. This stage simply requires our general workers to scan the components of the racking for any deformed or damaged parts before they finish their work.
Weekly inspection:
The second stage is a weekly inspection. This stage requires a worker with some experience, such as a warehouse supervisor. He needs to check every detail of the racking and record the degree of deformation and damage.
Monthly inspection:
The third stage is the monthly inspection. This stage can still be checked by the warehouse supervisor if there is no better person to do so. This time, in addition to checking carefully for damage, the racks are also cleaned. Regular cleaning also contributes to the racking’s longevity.
Annual inspection:
The final stage is an annual inspection. This inspection is the most important. That is why experienced storage experts are needed to check whether our racking systems need maintenance and repair. If required, the specialist can provide a professional repair solution.
Replacing damaged components
For some pallet racking that has been in use for a longer period, some parts need to be replaced to eliminate the risk.
So why just replace rather than repair?
Here are the reasons:
- The repair process for racking requires consultation with the manufacturer for a more professional opinion. Otherwise, repairs can easily be incomplete and cause damage to the racking.
- During the repair process, the racking must not be shaped twice using the heating or cold forming principle. These methods can have an irreversible effect on the load-bearing aspects of the rack
- If the parts of the racking are excessively damaged, it is recommended to replace the broken parts for the safety of the warehouse.
Safety is the most important issue that need you to pay attention to during the repair.
- No matter how small the part is, we have to be very careful when repairing it. Heavy items on the racking have to be removed to prevent them from falling over during repairs.
- In the case of high storage locations for maintenance racks, make sure that all equipment is secured.
- The whole warehouse needs to be bright enough. This allows for better work in the warehouse.
- The aisles of the warehouse must be kept clean at all times to avoid unnecessary accidents.
Replacing beams on pallet racking systems:
Replacing the crossbeam requires dismantling the entire racking bay. And remove the safety bolts. The damaged beams are then removed and the brand-new ones are installed.
For safety, crossbeams can only be replaced one at a time.
Replacing uprights or frame protectors:
The replacement of upright or upright protection requires removing the nearest protection first. This makes it easier to replace.
Once removed, check that there is no damage to the other components and that the floor is still intact. If the ground is raised and the upright can no longer be installed, consult the manufacturer immediately.
Replace the damaged upright and install the frame protector in place.
Replacing bracing in the racking system:
It is easy to replace diagonal bracing. Firstly, you need to unload the upright on both sides of the frame. Then unload the damaged bracing and check if there is damage around or on other components. If there is not, you can install the new bracing.
Replacing a racking system upright or frame:
During the replacement, if you encounter some problems or you are curious about the way of replacing, you must consult the manufacturer for professional suggestions.
