Components of Pallet Live Storage
Pallet live storage consists of serval components. It is a high-density storage system. In pallet live racking, there is a slope between 3% and 4%, by which pallets move with gravity. In this scenario, speed can be handled nicely.
Pallet live storage consists of the following main components:
Upright frames: It is one of the basic components. It has a piece of the frame. These are attached to the floor area for strong and sturdy support.
Beam: A horizontally placed component that supports the loaded pallets. Beam joins the frames together. It also supports roller beds on which the load can be moved easily.
Profile: In pallet live storage profile attached with beams of each of the level ends. It helps the rollers to move and support the racking firmly.
Pallet guidance: Located at the front of the roller bed. It helps in loading and prevents potential damage impacts too.
Rollers: Rollers play a vital role in the FIFO pallet racking system. The movement is handled by gravity.
Brake rollers: This component is responsible for safety. It is placed along with the roller bed. The brake roller is used to keep the speed of the pallet stable.
Pallet backstops: Pallet backstops are used to stop the pallet end of the roller aisle. It can stop pallets from moving and is always ready for removal too.
Pallet retainer: The pallet retainer is an optional component in pallet live storage. It is used to separate the unit loads. It passes the pressure between these unit loads equally.
Folding rollers: When there is a need for cleaning and maintenance, then folding rollers help to raise roller beds. Its need depends upon installation requirements.
Split rollers: Split rollers make easy movement of operations for forklifts. It is installed at the loading and unloading areas of the live pallet racking.
Pallet Live Storage Working Principle
Pallet live storage depends on one of two working principles based on your warehouse needs.
FIFO Principal
The FIFO principle is known as the First-In, First-Out principle. Its structure is based on a slight incline and roller conveyors. Which allows palletized products to move smoothly.
On the other end, the pallets stop there. This is due to the retainer. Here’s the last pallet ready to come out first.
Gravity force helps to move unit loads here. And the speed can be controlled with the help of the first in first out racking system braking. It ensures safety as well. The most commonly used slope of rollers is between 3 and 4%.
The FIFO system also helps in preventing damage to goods.
LIFO Principal
The LIFO principle is known as the Last-In, First-Out principle. In this working principle, the last item stored is the first to be retrieved. This means that the first one would be removed at last.
A forklift is used to push pallets into live storage rack sequentially. This type of racking is known as push-back racking.
How Does Pallet Live Storage Work
By using the first in, first out (FIFO) principle, the pallet live storage system allows fast handling of goods and also simplifies pallet selection. Pallets are placed in storage lanes at the loading side. After that, it automatically rolls forward on a sloping wheel with the help of gravity force. Speed is controlled by brake rollers.
On another side for unloading or retrieval face, the load separator and end stop play a vital role in handling goods. It is used to avoid unnecessary internal operational tasks.
Pallet live storage requires a minimum of two forklifts, one for loading and the other one for unloading. Due to this, it avoids the unnecessary point-to-point movement of pallets too.
