There are two main types of cantilever racking.
Heavy-duty Cantilever Racks
Heavy-duty cantilever solutions are best for solid and bulky goods. They have special uprights, brace sets, and arms. The heavy-duty type can be erected from 8 feet to 20 feet maximum. The arms can be inclined or straight made with 7 to 10-gauge steel to hold around 4000 pounds with a maximum length between 54 and 60 inches. However, at OKE Storage we use i-beams and utilize steel gauges to manufacture these racks according to our customers’ load-bearing requirements.
Brace sets come separately depending on your selected uprights and arms. For instance, if you are installing a cantilever system that is 20 feet tall with 48 inches of arm’s length. Then, you may only need a single set of braces.

It is necessary to install a metal cantilever rack correctly for the sake of safety and easy operations. So when building the rack, take care of the following things.
1. Make sure there is no deflection when keeping load because it puts extra pressure on the arms. To check this, elevate a single structure, fix arms/beams, and keep two wooden blocks. Also, do not leave more than 1/2 foot of space between 2 arms. If there is deflection, it means the load exceeds the distance between two arms.
2. Select arms’ length in even numbers according to the wideness of your brace sets. Remember, most braces are available from 2ft wide to 8ft wide.
3. If deflection is still in two arms, you can add three arms. Also, ensure your goods don’t overhang the arms for more than 1/2 inch.

Column and Cantilever Stress Analysis: The maximum moment M on the column is given by the formula M = ql^2 + 2qlx, where q represents the load. At the junction of the cantilever beam and the column, the maximum bending stress σ on the column is calculated as σ = M / W^2, where W^2 is the section modulus of the column. Under full load conditions, the column experiences the maximum bending stress, resulting in the maximum deflection on one side of the rack. When the first layer is loaded, the column deflects, and this pattern continues for each subsequent layer as it is loaded, resulting in column deflection at the nth layer.

Shelf Vibration Stability Analysis According to the latest edition of the “Seismic Design Code for Structures,” seismic loads only need to be calculated in the horizontal direction [8]. Based on local building seismic resistance requirements, this shelf is designed for a seismic resistance level of 6, with a seismic acceleration of 0.1g.
In the formula:
Cv represents the seismic coefficient, related to the site and seismic acceleration, and is taken as Cv = 0.24.
R is the safety factor, set at R = 4.
T is the shelf vibration period, calculated as T = 1/f = 0.515 seconds.
